Today's Soup Tip - Using Brown Rice Instead of Barley
Brown rice turns out much like barley when cooked with soup made in a slow cooker. I added brown rice to ham and bean soup that I made in my crockpot. I cooked on high for about an hour, and then cooked it on low for the rest of the day. The brown rice sort of popped open, so it had the texture of barley that you find in canned vegetable beef and barley soup. We liked it.
