Split Pea and Ground Beef Soup

This split pea soup is different because it has ground beef and macaroni in it. It can be hard to find a split pea recipe that doesn't have ham or bacon in it. So if you don't eat pork, this Split Pea and Ground Beef Soup is for you.

Ingredients

* 2 lbs ground beef
* 1/4 teaspoon oregano
* 1/4 teaspoon basil
* 1 teaspoon seasoning salt
* 2 tablespoons dry onion soup mix
* 6 cups water
* 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
* 1 tablespoon soy sauce
* 1 1/4 cups sliced celery, both stalks and leaves
* 1 cup sliced carrot
* 1/3 cup dried green or yellow split peas
* 1 cup uncooked elbow macaroni


Directions

In a large saucepan, brown meat, drain excess fat. Add the water and bring to a boil. Add the seasonings, tomato sauce, celery, carrots, and split peas. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for about 30 minutes. Bring it back to a boil and add the macaroni. Reduce heat and simmer for another 20 - 30 minutes until the macaroni is done.
