Stacy's Hamburger Veggie Soup

Stacy makes the best veggie soup! She uses all sorts of veggies, not just carrots and potatoes like a lot of recipes. This is really colorful, too.

If you've never tried rutabaga before, don't be afraid of it. It is a hard root vegetable and is just a little sweet. Look for it in the grocery store with the fresh produce, by the turnips and carrots. They'll be about the size of baseballs and a yellow orange color. You have to peel it first, then cut it in chunks.

Ingredients

* 1 pound lean ground beef
* 1 cup peeled and chopped carrots
* 1 cup peeled and chopped potatoes
* 1 cup peeled and chopped rutabagas
* 1/2 cup chopped celery
* 1/2 cup peeled and chopped onion
* 1 (10 ounce) package frozen corn kernels
* 6 cubes beef bouillon
* 6 cups water
* 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
* 1 (16 ounce) can diced tomatoes
* 1 teaspoon dried basil
* 3 tablespoons ketchup

Directions

In a large heavy pan or Dutch oven, brown hamburger over medium heat. Drain off fat.

Add the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Simmer for at least half an hour, until the vegetables are tender.
